How to Wash Boxing Wraps : The Best Method!

Table of Contents

I believe it is quite essential to wash boxing wraps as it maintains good hygiene and of course increases its durability or lifespan.

I often notice how my wraps get easily drenched in sweat, harboring bacteria and odor. This is why I know clean boxing wraps not only smell fresh but also prevent skin infections and irritation.

So, keep reading where I talk in detail about the step-by-step guide on how to wash boxing wraps with hand- or machine-based techniques.

Preparing to Wash Boxing Wraps

Remove Wraps from Bag: What I firstly do is remove the wraps from my gym bag as soon as I get home. It is because keeping them in the bag, in the dark to be more precise, fosters bacteria growth.

This also leads to odor and I promise, it becomes unbearable as it also creates skin infection. Hence, I believe keeping them in the open dries out the moisture.

Untangle the Wraps: I always untangle the wraps before washing as it makes the wash easier by preventing knots and tangles while washing.

I just straighten them out and see if there is any damage or tear that needs to be mend. I have noticed how untangling the wraps also gives more of an effective wash.

Pre-Wash Soaking

I usually start by filling the sink or basin with warm water, which helps to loosen dirt and sweat in the fabric.

Next, I also add a small amount of mild detergent to the warm water. I believe harsh detergents can break down the fibers and affect the durability of the wraps.

So, I just let the wraps soak in this mixture for about 10-15 minutes as it breaks the grime and makes the washing process easier.

Washing

Hand Wash Method:

After soaking, I gently scrub the wraps with my hands and focus mostly on removing dirt and sweat. Sometimes, I accidentally stain the wraps and that is when I pay extra attention to rubbing on those areas.

I believe this method is generally more gentle on the fabric and maintains the elasticity and quality of the wraps in a better way.

After that, I rinse the wraps under running water to remove any traces of detergent and grime.

Machine Wash Method:

I usually place the wraps in a mesh laundry bag so that it doesn’t tangle with other clothes. This way, I believe, it also protects them from getting damaged in the washing machine.

I always set my washing machine on a gentle cycle and use cold water (ONLY). I then add a small amount of mild detergent. I avoid using any sort of bleach or fabric softener as it easily affects the elasticity of the wraps.

Rinsing

Just make sure all the soap and detergent is rinsed properly out of the wraps whether you followed the hand washing or the machine method.

I always run the wraps under cold water until the water is clear as any leftover soap can cause irritation and it can also damage the fabric over time faster than usual.

Drying

I often lay my wraps flat on a clean towel or hang them up to air dry. I always make sure they are spread out for quick drying.

I believe air drying is the best method since it maintains the shape and elasticity of the wraps on a higher level.

There’s another method which is keeping them under sunlight but I have done it once and it usually causes the colors to fade and weaken the fabric.

I prefer a well-ventilated area away from direct sun exposure for drying as it is a much better and safer option.

I would suggest you avoid using a hair dryer as this can also damage the fabric ad reduce the elasticity from the wraps.
